CWC began in October 1991 as Canadian Women in Radio and Television
(CWRT). Interest in the organization was strong at inception and has
continued over the last twelve years of operation: membership currently
stands at over 1,400 members.
Although CWRT began with a strong focus on radio and television broadcasting,
it quickly became apparent that there was a need to support women in
associated industries. It also became evident that there were considerable
benefits to having membership drawn from a wider industry base, both
from an information and a networking perspective.
Canadian Women in Communications is now a multifaceted, inclusive association with a practical and forward-looking approach to the promotion of women in the industry.
