Three Women. Three Lives.
A Story of Courage, Hope and Perseverance.

An EXCLUSIVE and FREE movie event for CWC members and friends!

The GTA Region is proud to offer CWC members and guests an exclusive screening of the award-winning documentary “21 Days to Nawroz” by Canadian director and producer Michelle Mama. Check out the trailer at: http://tinyurl.com/27hzv32

Filmed in Iraq, “21 Days to Nawroz” explores the lives of three very different Kurdish women as they prepare for an ancient New Year feast by reckoning with the past and looking to the future.

As a special treat for attendees, the film will be followed by an intimate conversation and Q&A with Michelle Mama.

If you are a CWC member, admission is FREE for you and one guest! Please register below in advance.

In lieu of purchasing a ticket, attendees are invited to bring any of the following items to the event as a donation to YWCA Toronto: non-perishable food items, diapers, baby wipes, grocery store gift cards, Tim Horton’s coffee gift certificates, small alarm clocks, umbrellas or unopened toiletry items.

About “21 Days of Nawroz”
Kurdistan – also known as “The Other Iraq” – has been held up as a shining example of peace in the Middle East since U.S. sanctioned protections were put in place in 1992, but how has this experimental democracy really affected women?

“21 Days of Nawroz” is the study of evolution, hope and courage in the most unlikely of places through three different Kurdish women: Razaw, a feminist lawyer that defends women who are victims of honour crimes; Alwan, a woman who as an 8 years-old lost everything and witnessed unspeakable horrors when Saddam Hussein dropped a chemical bomb on the city of Halabja; and Banaz, a tech-savvy 18-year-old girl who came of age post-Saddam, and is brimming with optimism.
